"After the age of 50, we all have lots of greatness
that we just haven’t gotten to yet."
Other than law ---"What passionate visions have you had for your future?"
- Climbing Mt. Everest?
- Sailing across the Atlantic?
- Or maybe establishing a cherished not-for-profit is your passion?
The Crossroads Workshops are an invigorating adventure into the important area of embracing passions and fulfilling vision after the age of 50.
The workshops initially focus on individual greatness and then act as a catalyst for developing personal vision and accelerating action.
Relevance
Have you ever thought of yourself as a “visionary?” You are the architect of these upcoming years. Many of our talents and passions have been on hold for years while building a career and raising a family. We spent our first 25 years going to school and the next 25 years building a legal career. These interactive workshops will help you re-shuffle and prioritize the meaningful parts of your life and provide concrete assistance in reaching those goals of greatness that have been put aside until now.
Have you ever thought the practice of law has become a little more arduous than it should be? Pursuing our passions and ideas is not about abandoning our legal careers, but rather complimenting them. The exhilaration and joy of fulfilling our vision in other important areas of life have a positive impact on our professional life too.
We are at a significant crossroads in life. Our careers are built and our families are substantially raised. Do we pursue our vision now or do we wait for a more perfect time and put these possibilities at risk? Obviously, it is best to pursue such an important endeavor while still relatively young. At age 75, we may not have the youthfulness necessary for fulfilling our greatest visions.
“Greatness” is the very best of who we are. It is not a matter for the very young. They lack the necessary elements of experience, education, and wisdom. These workshops are for all attorneys over the age of 50 who have a hunger to revitalize, discover, develop, or accelerate progress towards personal visions and greater inspiration.
Purpose of the Workshop
These workshops are designed to utilize the power of group synergy. Discovering, developing, and brainstorming ideas among fellow attorneys creates a powerful group dynamic that is energizing and enlightening.
The workshop “content” is calculated to be stimulating, relevant, and provocative. The entire workshop serves to accelerate progress by acting as a catalyst for each participant to create and develop ‘”vision” and “action” based on his or her unique talents and passions.
To utilize a sports metaphor as an illustration: It was group synergy and camaraderie that transformed the Green Bay Packers, Bart Starr, and Vince Lombardi into one of the most powerful forces in the history of professional football.
Underlying Premise
that we just haven’t gotten to yet.”
Have you ever wondered whether you would get a bonafide opportunity to pursue your greatness and passion? As young lawyers in our mid-20s, we perceived that we had more than enough time to build a career, raise a family, and plan for other great things that we wanted to accomplish someday. We are all endowed with significant gifts and talents. Over the years, these gifts result in an assortment of aspirations and great ideas that typically have to be placed on hold until later in life.
Our first 50 years have been well spent. The years after 50 are the best years for transforming our favorite visions into a reality. This time period provides an excellent juxtaposition of remaining youthful years, higher education, the wisdom of experience, and vast opportunities. On the other hand, the years over 50 also impose a unique restriction: “Now, time is of the essence.”
Most people have a deep desire to make the years after age 50 extraordinary. The infamous Henry David Thoreau quote illustrates this point: “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.” Such a frustrating outcome is not mandatory, but rather it is a rebuttable presumption. To begin the inquiry, ask yourself, “What are the two most important things that I definitely want to accomplish or experience before I get old?” After decades of hard work, we deserve this opportunity.
Pro Se vs. Group Dynamic
A “Pro Se” approach is usually more arduous. It requires the individual to discover, create, and expand each and every idea, possibility, and strategy. It also requires the solo entrepreneur to discover every solution and remedy to each problem and obstacle. Such a formidable burden is more likely to produce exhaustion and isolation that may encourage a person to consider postponing progress or quitting their venture.
On the other hand, utilizing the benefits of group participation and camaraderie is more exhilarating and enjoyable. The inspiration and energy generated among colleagues committed to producing vision and realizing greater endeavors is a powerful asset. Other perspectives and ideas add vitality and creativity, and may reveal an overlooked element of a plan or strategy. Participants are encouraged to enhance the group synergy by interacting between sessions and after the workshop has been completed.
Each workshop group includes nearly 100 years of legal experience and a myriad of valuable and vibrant personal experiences. Such a concerted effort is especially valuable in today’s unreliable economic times where the quantity of time and resources for future plans may not materialize as anticipated.
